Deus ex machina # 1
This little mixer was built for cookie dough and kitchen countertops. And for a brief period the mixer served it's intended purpose. It helped make some unforgettable Italian macarons.
Now, it's entirely dedicated to mixing pigment with various binders for paints and pastels.
Anthropomorphized, it would say: "Life was easier before and I won't last so long."
Thankfully, it's just a machine so I'll just keep greasing the moving parts and disregard the feelings it doesn't have.
Without mechanical mixing, commercial artist paints and pastels would cost a small fortune because the labour would be intense and costly and take a lot longer to finish.
Artists with modest means would likely learn to make their own materials.
